Our Organic Wool Comforter is made with regenerative New Zealand merino wool for naturally breathable, all-season sleep. By helping heat and moisture move away from your body, it keeps your bed feeling drier, more balanced and comfortable through the night.

This is the standalone comforter—also known as a duvet insert. It includes the comforter only; a duvet cover and sheets are not included.

Available in Queen and King, it combines a 350 GSM all-season fill of ZQ-certified New Zealand merino wool with an OEKO-TEX-certified organic-cotton shell.

Why It Performs

Drier, more balanced comfort: Merino wool absorbs and releases moisture vapour, helping reduce the buildup of heat and humidity around your body overnight.

Breathable Airlay construction: Our Airlay construction forms the merino wool into an open network of lofted spheres, helping heat and moisture move through the fill while maintaining soft, even insulation.

One versatile all-season weight: The 350 GSM fill is designed for balanced year-round comfort rather than lightweight summer coverage or heavy winter warmth.

Traceable New Zealand wool: ZQ and ZQRX sourcing supports audited animal welfare, environmental responsibility and regenerative farming practices.

When selecting an organic comforter, King and Queen sizes are meticulously weighted to provide an ideal, uncompromised drape. Our wool comforter Queen features a balanced 4.0 lbs fill weight (5.1 lbs total) that settles perfectly across standard queen mattresses without pulling at the corners. For larger beds, the organic comforter King option scales up to a plush 4.5 lbs fill weight (5.8 lbs total), ensuring a luxurious, continuous layer of temperature-regulating insulation that accommodates two sleepers comfortably. Choosing the right wool comforter King or Queen setup ensures your bedding maintains its signature loft and active airflow precisely where you need it.

The Science of our Spun Wool Airlay Construction

Unlike traditional wool batts that can pack down, shift, and trap heat over time, our New Zealand wool duvet uses a proprietary Airlay design to keep the interior structure completely open. By spinning the merino fibers into lightweight, interlocking spheres, we achieve 40% more airflow than standard wool comforters.

This structural difference creates a dynamic microclimate over your bed. The organic wool fibers absorb up to 30% of their weight in moisture vapor without ever feeling damp, pulling humidity away from your skin and evaporating it into the room. The result is a naturally breathable wool duvet, organic by design, that regulates overnight temperature without relying on synthetic fills, harsh chemical treatments, or artificial cooling coatings.

Before You Buy: Fit, Feel & Care

Use it with a duvet cover: A breathable cotton or linen duvet cover helps protect the insert and keeps moisture moving through the bedding system. Match the insert to the cover size: Queen is 90" x 90"; King is 108" x 90".

Expect a gentle drape, not puffy down loft: Wool feels more settled than down. The Queen has 4.0 lbs of wool fill and 5.1 lbs total weight; the King has 4.5 lbs of wool fill and 5.8 lbs total weight. Most buyers choose it for steady, breathable comfort rather than a cloud-like down feel.

Plan for low-frequency care: Use a duvet cover, spot clean small marks, and air the comforter between deeper cleans. For full cleaning, follow the care label: dry clean only. If machine washing at home is your top priority, a washable comforter may be a better fit.

For couples with different sleep temperatures: This all-season weight is designed for balanced comfort when one sleeper runs warm and the other prefers cozy coverage. If one partner wants very heavy warmth or the other wants only a sheet, two separate inserts may be more precise.

How Our Breathable Wool Duvet Insert Works

Our proprietary Airlay construction forms fine New Zealand merino wool into an open network of lofted spheres. This creates space through the fill for heat and moisture to move while maintaining soft, even insulation.

The result is a gently weighted wool comforter designed to keep your bed feeling drier, more breathable and more balanced through the night.

Wool Comforter Set (Insert + Organic Cotton Cover) - Antipodean Home

Sourced from Regenerative New Zealand Farms

We exclusively source our wool from ZQ and ZQRX-certified family farms across the pristine highlands of New Zealand.

This represents the absolute pinnacle of ethical textiles. Unlike industrial agricultural operations, our regenerative farms are strictly audited to ensure the highest standards of animal welfare, biodiversity protection, and soil health.

Because these sheep graze on clean, unpolluted pastures, the resulting merino wool fibers are uniquely strong, pure, and resilient.

This meticulous sourcing eliminates the need for the aggressive chemical pesticide treatments common in standard wool bedding, delivering an inherently pure, clean material that is perfectly safe for ultra-sensitive skin.

Merino Wool Fills & Organic Construction

The Zero-Chemical Standard: Many commercial brands use harsh chlorine baths to strip their fibers for "machine-washable" ratings. We completely refuse to compromise your sleep health with chemical washes or synthetic coatings. Our organic wool duvet insert remains entirely unadulterated, pure, and naturally structured.

OEKO-TEX Certified Purity: The clean wool fill is encased in an ultra-premium, chemical-free organic cotton shell. Every item is certified free from harmful substances, volatile organic compounds (VOCs), and toxic flame retardants from the yarn to the finished stitch.

Perpetual Weight Distribution: Constructed with custom sewn-in chambers to ensure your sleep remains completely uninterrupted. This architecture prevents the merino fill from shifting, clumping, or bunching inside your duvet cover—securing a uniform, calming drape for deeper REM sleep cycles.

Pleasantly surprised with the customer service

Pleasantly surprised with the customer service. There was a minor shipping delay, which was not a huge deal, and nevertheless, the owner/manager wrote a thank you note and put it in the bag. Also dryer balls. Such a nice touch. Exceptional quality duvet with no weird China-chemical smell.

Finally sleeping through the night

I bought this organic wool comforter after trying a couple of "cooling" comforters that never really worked. I still woke up hot and sweaty most nights.

I've had this merino wool comforter for a few weeks now, and the biggest difference is my bed stays dry instead of feeling damp by morning. I'm not constantly throwing the covers off anymore.

It's comfortable, well made, and fits perfectly inside my duvet cover. If you're a hot sleeper looking for a natural wool comforter, I'd definitely recommend it.

Hi Michelle, we're thrilled to hear that you're sleeping better and loving your wool comforter! Thanks so much for sharing your experience and for recommending us. Sweet dreams!

Breathable merino comforter that’s great for night sweats

Honestly, if you run hot or get night sweats, this comforter is a solid pick. The wool feels noticeably more breathable than down/synthetics, so you’re less likely to wake up feeling sweaty or sticky.

Quality Duvet

Very breathable, great for a hot sleeper. Only downside is the first week of the “sheepy” smell that goes away after airing out

Hi Joe, we're glad you're enjoying the breathable comfort of our wool duvet! Thanks for your feedback!

Very nice!

The comforter/duvet insert is wry nice and well made. It keeps me warm without being heavy. I really like it, but wish it had loops in the corners to secure it to my duvet cover.

Warm but no duvet ties

It’s nice and warm. I’ve been using it in the Chicago winter, and I find I don’t need to wear socks at night anymore it’s so warm. My only criticism is that I wish it had ties for a duvet cover.

Great experience

I thought the quality was excellent. Unfortunately needed to return it because it’s not warm enough for subzero temps. Returning it was easy and painfree. Wish they made a thicker one for colder climes.

Temperature Control

This solved a lot of problems for me and my partner. He runs hot, I run cold. The temperature regulating feature of the merino wool really sold me, and it has proven to live up to its promises.

Answers to common questions about wool comforters, hot sleepers, night sweats, breathability, and year-round comfort.

Wool Comforter FAQs

What is included with this comforter?

This product includes one standalone Organic Wool Comforter, also known as a wool duvet insert. A duvet cover and sheets are not included.

If you want the comforter with an organic-cotton duvet cover, choose the Organic Wool Comforter Set. If you also need sheets, choose the Organic Wool Bedding Set.

Is a wool comforter good for hot sleepers?

Yes. Wool comforters are one of the best bedding options for hot sleepers because wool naturally regulates temperature and manages moisture throughout the night. Instead of trapping heat, wool helps maintain a more stable sleep environment, reducing overheating and helping many sleepers stay comfortable in every season.

Can a wool-filled comforter be used all-season, year-round?

Yes. A quality wool-filled comforter is designed to provide comfort across a wide range of temperatures. Wool helps buffer changes in heat and humidity, making it a popular all-season comforter option.

What does 350 GSM mean in a wool comforter?

GSM means grams of wool fill per square meter. At 350 GSM, this comforter is designed as an all-season weight: more substantial than a lightweight summer insert, without the high loft of a heavy winter duvet. The Queen has 4.0 lb of wool fill and weighs 5.1 lb in total; the King has 4.5 lb of fill and weighs 5.8 lb in total. Wool has a more gently weighted, lower-loft feel than fluffy down, so choose it for balanced drape rather than a cloud-like appearance.

How does this wool comforter feel compared with down?

Wool has a gentler, more settled drape than fluffy down. It feels softly weighted and evenly distributed rather than cloud-like or highly lofted.

Will it fit my existing duvet cover?

The Queen comforter measures 90 × 90 inches and the King measures 108 × 90 inches. Compare those measurements with your cover before ordering, because duvet-cover dimensions vary by brand. A cover close to the insert size will generally give the most even fit; a smaller cover creates a fuller look, while an oversized cover may allow more movement.

Does the comforter have corner loops?

No. Corner loops are not currently available on this comforter. Using a duvet cover that closely matches the insert’s dimensions will help limit movement.

Will the wool fill shift or clump?

The comforter uses sewn chambers to distribute the spun-wool fill across the insert. Those chambers are designed to limit large-scale shifting and bunching during normal use. Using a correctly sized duvet cover and following the care instructions will help preserve an even drape.

How should I clean and care for the comforter?

Use a duvet cover, spot clean small marks and air the comforter periodically. For full cleaning, follow the care label: dry clean only. Do not machine wash.
